ECOLOGICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES FOR THE YANGTZE BASIN——PRESENT SITUATION AND GREAT CHALLENGE

Abstract: The present situation and some ecological and environmental problems in the Yangtze Basin were analyzed in this paper. With the rapid development of the society and economy in China, a series of ecological and environmental problems in the Yangtze River have emerged. Water pollution has not been controlled effectively. There exists a great challenge due to the large scale hydropower development and water resource exploitation. Comprehensive management of relative factors which affect the basin's ecological system, including water, soil, biological and other resources, should be enhanced. How to deal with the relation between protection and exploitation of the Yangtze River will be an essential topic in the next few decades.
